Andreas Galliker

or Andy Galliker for short, took on the role of Head IT at swisspartners in November 2022. While studying Business Administration in Schaffhausen, he was identified as a tech whiz during the very first lesson of the brand new computer science course. His outstanding IT skills meant that he was able to support and guide other students from the very start. He completed additional vocational training in IT alongside his job at Rahn AG in Zurich, gaining the qualifications Office Supporter SIZ and Business IT Specialist SIZ. This training laid the foundation for his future career in IT. Later, as Head IT Infrastructure at Implenia AG, Andy Galliker was entrusted with an increasing number of management tasks. This gave him the opportunity to establish himself in a management role and gain leadership experience. Before joining swisspartners, he held the role of Global Manager at the chocolate manufacturer Lindt & Sprüngli AG, where he was responsible for areas including Service Management and Client Engineering. Here’s what Andy Galliker has to say about his move to swisspartners: “As Head IT at swisspartners, I have the opportunity to design and implement the new digital strategy and vision in cooperation with the board of directors. Unlike at a major corporation with 10,000 employees, everyone at swisspartners knows each other personally – and this is really helpful when it comes to achieving this goal.” But things could have gone very differently. If 17-year-old Andy Galliker hadn’t had the misfortune of suffering a serious injury while playing for the Switzerland U18 football team, he might have become a professional football player. But his sporting career came to a premature end due to a bad tackle in which he tore all the ligaments in his left ankle. In the end, though, this was a turn of luck for swisspartners; otherwise Andy and his wealth of IT expertise would not be accompanying us on our digital transformation journey.

5 QUESTIONS FOR ANDREAS GALLIKER

1

What’s the best thing you have to offer at swisspartners?

A wealth of IT experience, from a range of different perspectives. These include IT management experience, IT user training, IT consulting, client engineering, experience as a Head of IT Infrastructure, and at every level — from supporter to Head of IT, global projects in major companies, small projects in SMEs and much more.

2

What is your greatest strength?

I think I am good at explaining complicated, hard-to-grasp IT issues to users in simple language that everyone can understand

3

What do you currently see as your greatest challenge?

To initiate and bring about the digital transformation towards a modern way of working, and to make users feel like part of the journey. I don’t want anyone to get left behind.

4

How do you get yourself motivated?

As the person responsible for IT, I’m spurred on to develop solutions to combat the challenges and issues that IT users face. Some things just keep niggling at me, so I keep at them until I have found a solution that works.

5

What do you do to manage your work-life balance?

I do a lot of exercise to counterbalance my work. Some of my favourite sports include football, tennis, rollerblading, hiking and cycling. Aside from that, I love going on rides on my Harley Davidson, together with my wife and friends, or enjoying a nice meal with family or people from our circle of friends.
